Disclaimer: If you have a 870 that is 20 years old or older your gun might be built on a 12 gauge. To test take your nut off the end of the tube and if a 12 gauge shell will fit in the diameter of your tube then your gun will take the

The new model Remington 870/1100/1187 shotgun have 2 dimples that will have to be sanded /ground down or drilled out with 3/16 holes before spring will extend up into the magazine extension.
The older model Remington 870/1100/1187 will readily accept this extension without any alterations.
